Jim Fields, Global Head, Health Services, Oliver Wyman, shared his views on inappropriate medical care at this year's StartUp Health Festival, held during JP Morgan Healthcare Week last January in San Francisco.

Eighty percent of medical care lacks clear guidelines, said Jim, who leads Oliver Wyman’s Practicing Wisely collaboration to reduce unnecessary medical care across the industry.

Healthcare is filled with valuable opportunities for improvement, he noted, but it’s up to the industry to connect the dots. “Healthcare is messy. Healthcare is deeply entrenched. We need to find ways to connect that out-of-the-box thinking to how things get done in healthcare,” he explained.
