For the past five years, Oliver Wyman has been tracking payer-provider partnerships and reporting on trends in the space. This infographic includes new data from 2017, and it shows the trends we have identified over the past few years are continuing. That is, partnered-products are gaining favor with payers and providers, and the value-based environment is pushing players to explore new ways to control total cost of care.

Already in 2017, Cigna entered alliances with two major Southern California providers, Scripps Health and HealthCare Partners, to offer employers HMO products as an enhancement of their relationships through Cigna Collaborative Care. And Aetna announced a new joint venture with Allina Health, which will offer a number of fully insured and self-insured commercial products starting in early 2018, with Medicare and other products to follow.
